WhatsApp Messenger as we all know is a freeware messaging app which allows the user to send chats, videos, photos, documents etc but what we don't know is that now WhatsApp brings a new feature for its Indian users named WhatsApp Pay which allows the users to send and receive payments via WhatsApp only. Now some of us would say-"We already have many payment apps running in our country so why WhatsApp trying to slip inside this sector" but wait WhatsApp having a 200 million user base in India and if any such feature will get include then we don't have to switch between different apps for the payment.

Now the process is stuck because the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates the Unified Payments Interface on which WhatsApp Payments is built, has not replied to some queries asked by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology this month.

So what were the queries?

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology raised a query that whether the UPI services conform to RBI privacy and security rules.

  • The ministry is also concern about users data in India because we all know what Facebook has done with its users by selling the data of their userbase.

Verdict

WhatsApp having huge userbase in the country tries its best to involve this feature for the Indian user but by looking at the track record of what Facebook did with selling the data of the users to the companies, our government is little worried about it. But if WhatsApp manages to answer all the queries by the ministry then there will no issue for WhatsApp to introduce Whatsapp Pay. If WhatsApp Pay enters in the payment market then it will give tough competition to currently running and owning online payment giants like PaytmPhonePayMobikwik etc.
